Seattle is a vibrant city in the state of Washington, nestled at the foot of Mount Rainer on the Pacific North West coast. As well as being the summer starting point for cruising Alaska, Seattle is also the gateway to the fascinating and scenic San Juan Islands, which lie north west of the city, a short sail away. There are a staggering 172 islands in the archipelago, although only four: San Juan Island, Orcas Island, Lopez Island and Shaw Island are populated. The entire region is very popular with yachtsmen, and is home to a number of well-known races and regattas as well as the Seattle Boat Show.
